New York Daily News Make Same News

New York Daily News Once in a while, because great minds think alike, the Daily News and the Post choose the same headline for the front page if it’s a really big news story. But it’s pretty rare that both choose the same one for the back page, as it happened today for last night’s Yankee game.In the preseason opener, it looked like a stroke of genius. Frolov scored on Martin Brodeur and had a pair of power-play assists on goals by Gaborik, including the overtime game-winner. The Russian winger was the game’s No. 1 star. When the regular season opened, Frolov and Gaborik assisted on a goal by Erik Christensen in Buffalo. Two days later at Nassau Coliseum, Frolov had an assist on a goal by Dan Girardi.

I don’t think (getting the third pick) validates anything as far as the trade goes. I think we accepted the fact of the risk-reward, with being able to re-sign Deron. And I thought getting Devin and getting Derrick were things that were a key part, and then, whatever else we got was luck, to be honest with you. Among his memorable characters, aside from General Von Steingrabber, were Basement Bertha and Yuchie, who represented devoted Mets fans. The News said Gallo's last cartoon ran in the paper on April 19. It showed Bertha window shopping and hoping to be invited to the royal wedding.

Okay, Mr. Boxing Man, are you telling me this Philippine Dynamo is the best you have ever seen? Yes, in a very long time. And he might just be the man who will eventually put boxing back in the upper deck of sports. Believe me, this kid who aspires to be big in Philippine politics, with his perpetual smile and special brand of punching ability, is indeed the goods. Frolov was one year removed from the second 30-goal season of his career, the Rangers needed a scoring boost, the short-term cap room was there and there were reasons to believe that Frolov might bounce back. In addition to a potential boost from a change of scenery, and the thought that he would be a good fit on Marian Gaborik’s line, Frolov had posted shooting percentages of 17.9, 14.4 and 18.2 in the seasons before he dipped to 10.4% in a 19-goal effort with the Kings in 2009-10.
