They used to say that people like George W. Bush stand on third base and (wrongly) think they hit a triple. (I’m almost certain that was said in an economic sense to either Dubya or his father, by one of their political opponents.) I think it can truly be said that Obama stood on third and came home (on the bin Laden killing) due to a home run hit by the Navy SEALs and the intelligence/war apparatus put in place by his predecessor.
